ABOUT THE AUTHOR
In a previous incarnation, I taught US Labor & Social History at the University of Toledo, wrote numerous articles and co-authored two books. Now I get to create cause and effect relationships on my own, in short stories and longer pieces.
The Custer Conspiracy is my first novel. I've had a second one underway for some time. Mark Twain once remarked something to the effect that on various of his books the barrel became empty and he had to set the work aside until it filled up again. I reckon I'll get back to that other novel in time. Meanwhile, short stories keep me pretty busy. A couple of them have been published in Nantucket Writing, a journal edited by a writing group I belonged to on the Island. A prose poem, described by one of my friends as "Dr. Suess meets Kafka," appears in Cafe Solo.

I've always loved to read, but had little experience with writing fiction when I started to do that. Fortunately, I became a member of the Cambria Writers Workshop and there I learned about fiction. How to write believable characters. How to plot a story. And so on.
As The Custer Conspiracy evolved, I read chapters in the
Workshop and received invaluable suggestions.
Various conferences and seminars beefed up the techniques. But what I learned above all is that to be a writer you have to write---not just read about writing.
